Prada dates back to 1913 when Mario Prada and his young brother Martino opened a store in Milan. Mario spent time travelling Europe collecting high-quality and unique leather goods as he did. These goods would serve as a reference when he started designing his own bags. Revival of the brand came in 1978 when Mario’s granddaughter, Miuccia Prada, became the owner—serving as both owner and designer. She designed a new bag using the waterproof material nylon, and it was called the Pocono. This simple nylon bag would open the brand up to a new market where it would become an overnight success. The triangle plate engraved with the brand name would become the brand’s new icon. Later spinoff brands like Miu Miu were born, embodying the ideal of everyday luxury. This brand and others survive as a part of the Prada Group to this day.
