Our company does not check and verify the actual numerical value of each item's environmental impact (CO2 emission and water consumption) for our Resale Impact. Instead, we base our calculations on data from the LCA database "Gabi*" and estimate the total environmental impact of an item's entire life cycle, from the procurement of its materials to its disposal and/or recycling. Our calculations were overseen by a third-party consulting firm.
Discrepancies in LCA results may occur due to differences in calculation assumptions or deficiencies in the manufacturing process.

The year is 1984, and the 5th generation and acting president of Hermès, Jean-Louis Dumas, is sitting next to singer Jane Birkin on a flight to London. Birkin had with her a straw bag filled to the brim. The sight of the singer and the inadequacy of her straw bag would lead Dumas to offer to design a bag that could meet the needs of Ms Birkin. Thus, Dumas set off to design a new bag using the brand’s Haut à courroies as a starting point. When finished, Dumas would take Jane Birkin’s surname as the name for the bag.
